August 2, 2016Join us for a tour of Glezen Farms LLC on August 2nd from 7-8:30 pm. In this meeting, the second of our Twilight Meetings, we will tour the freestall and milking facility and meet for discussion around cow comfort and facilities. Owner Scott Glezen will talk about their transition to a more comfortable facility and its impact on the cows. Glezen Farms LLC has made continual efforts over the past several years to improve cow comfort. Today, cows are housed in a 6 row freestall with mattresses and milked through a double-20 parallel parlor. The farm has had three NOVUS C.O.W.S. assessments done and has used these to make changes that would benefit the cows. Currently, the farm is working on building a new barn for dry cows and fresh cows, and will have a new hospital area shortly. The tour will view all of these areas. The farm owner, Scott Glezen, and the herdsman, Brad Blaisure, will discuss the how the farm has made changes as well as future plans. The farm's nutritionist, Chelsea Hoover with Shur-Gain, will cover the C.O.W.S. assessment in detail and all will be available for questions. Light refreshments will be offered, please RSVP ahead of time so we can get a head count!
